Cervid Bark-Stripping Is an Explicit Amplifier of Storm Legacy Effects in Norway Spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) Stands

چکیده

The interactions between wind damage and biotic agents, such as root-rot cervids (bark-stripping), amplify the effects of storms on forests in Europe Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) stands, Eastern Baltic region particular. Due to uneven manageability information about their susceptibility can aid prioritization management for sustaining stands. This study compared effect bark-stripping mechanical stability via mixed covariance analysis basal bending moments, based static tree-pulling test data 87 trees from five stands Latvia. Bark-stripping caused a significantly stronger reduction resistance against intrinsic wood damages (primary failure) root-rot, while showing similar fatal (secondary) failure. suggests that increases storm legacy effects, and, hence, is higher priority risk factor under climate-smart approach.

Conserved Function of Core Clock Proteins in the Gymnosperm Norway Spruce (Picea abies L. Karst)

From studies of the circadian clock in the plant model species Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana), a number of important properties and components have emerged. These include the genes CIRCADIAN CLOCK ASSOCIATED 1 (CCA1), GIGANTEA (GI), ZEITLUPE (ZTL) and TIMING OF CAB EXPRESSION 1 (TOC1 also known as PSEUDO-RESPONSE REGULATOR 1 (PRR1)) that via gene expression feedback loops participate in the...

Patterns of Nucleotide Diversity at Photoperiod Related Genes in Norway Spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst.]

The ability of plants to track seasonal changes is largely dependent on genes assigned to the photoperiod pathway, and variation in those genes is thereby important for adaptation to local day length conditions. Extensive physiological data in several temperate conifer species suggest that populations are adapted to local light conditions, but data on the genes underlying this adaptation are mo...

Retrieval of chlorophyll and nitrogen in Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) using imaging spectroscopy

The research evaluated the information content of spectral reflectance (laboratory and airborne data) for the estimation of needle chlorophyll (CAB) and nitrogen (CN) concentration in Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) needles. To identify reliable predictive models different types of spectral transformations were systematically compared regarding the accuracy of prediction. The results of t...

Are Early Somatic Embryos of the Norway Spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) Organised?

BACKGROUND Somatic embryogenesis in conifer species has great potential for the forestry industry. Hence, a number of methods have been developed for their efficient and rapid propagation through somatic embryogenesis. Although information is available regarding the previous process-mediated generation of embryogenic cells to form somatic embryos, there is a dearth of information in the literat...
